Obituary: Departed this life January 1st, 1894, Mrs. J. B. Dittenhaver, aged 54 years, 1 month and 8 days. The deceased was born in Dublin, Harrison county, Ohio, 1839, finished her education at Bedford Academy in 1856, and was married in 1860. After a long and painful illness, just as the joy bells were ringing in the glad New Year, the tired heart ceased to pulsate and the nerveless hands were folded over the stilled heart of as pure a wife and loving mother as ever graced a home. Her gentle, loving spirit has passed the confines of all earthly sorrows and entered into perfect rest. All that is left to the bereaved husband, the motherless children and the aged, sorrowing mother is the memory of her beautifal life. Filled with that sweet spirit of charity which thinketh no evil, she had surrounded herself by a large circle of friends which increased every year as her kindness and amiability became better known. She had just attained the full fruition of a perfect womanhood, having been spared to see her daughters and five sons all attain honorable stations in life. With a heart whore every pulsation was vibrant with joy for those who rejoiced, and sorrowful for those who sorrowed, her whole life was indeed a beaatifal mission, where there was sickness or sorrow "she came like a ministering angel." Often when the sorrows of life have seemed too great to be borne has she said to the writer: 'You have the sure promise 'As thy days are, so shall thy strength be.'" "You may break, you may shatter the vase if you will, Thus may the sweet incense of this mother's prayers which were daily offered on behalf of her loved ones linger long and he!p to purify the lives of those who mourn. May this comforting thought abide with them as they sit alone in the very darkness of Gethsemane. If the mists which veil futurity were cleared away and they could see into the beyond, they would know that their loss is her gain. **Resquiat in pace." |
