Obituary: On Monday afternoon Geo. Davis, a resident of this township, took his scythe and went into the field to mow, where he was found shortly afterward lying upon the ground,? having no doubt been overcome by the heat. When found life was not quite extinct, but he expired before he could be taken indoors. Dr. Bloomfield was immediately summoned, but no earthly aid could avail. Mr. Davis was over 72 years of age, a good citizen and liked by all who knew him This is the third death in the Davis family within the past six months -- a daughter, a son, and now the father. The afflicted ones have the sympathy of all George Davis was born in Dorsetshire, Old England, February 3rd, 1816, was married to Scharlotte Hammond in 1843; came to America in 1853; and settled in Lorain county, Ohio, removed to Henry county, Ohio, where he has made his home. He died in Napoleon township, Henry county, Ohio, July 30th, 1888 at 4 o'clock p.m. After living a long and industrious life, he was at last stricken down in the midst of labor with the scyth is his hand by sunstroke; aged 72 years, 8 months and 4 days.. He leaves an aged widow and five children all married and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. |
