MRS. CUNNINGHAM DIES

Mrs. Harry Cunningham, 73, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 3, 1947, in her residence, Flatrock Twp., near Holgate. Her death, due to a heart attack, came suddenly and unexpectedly after a few hours illness.

Born of pioneer stock, whose ancestral line extends unbroken the time of the American Revolution, when both her paternal and maternal ancestors participated in the War of Independence, she was the eldest of 8 children born to William Albert Rush and his wife, Louisa Long Rush, late of Henry county. Bereft of her mother at the age of 9, she took over the responsibility of her father's home, in a mother's stead and assisted in the upbringing of her younger brothers and sisters, 5 of whom became public school teachers well known in this county. Nov. 8, 1909, she was united in marriage to Harry H. Cunningham of Butler county, Ohio, and with him went there to live on a farm which they then had purchased, and upon which they resided until the spring of 1936, when they, with their son, returned to this county where they have since lived to the time of her death. To them was born a daughter, who died in infancy, and a son, Floyd, who with his wife now live in the vicinity of Holgate.

Surviving, besides the husband and son, are sisters, Mrs. Stephen A. Bissonnette and J. Andrew Armbruster of Napoleon, Mrs. Wm. C. Wilson, Cincinnati; brothers, Chas. G. Rush, Defiance; Herman A. Rush, Metamora; Cary G. Rush, Elyria. A brother Carey G. Rush preceded her in death, Feb 9, 1938.

Mrs Cunningham was a woman of admirable character and rare womanly virtue, uncomplaining in adversity, patient in suffering and kind, unassuming and gentle manner, devoted to family and friends, always placing duty first, forgetting her own pleasure, and comfort. A relative, speaking of her, expressed the thought of many when she said, "She was always so good."

In her young womanhood, she became a member of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Episcopal church, a church in her home community which at that time was a charge of the Holgate church.

Services were held Monday, Jan 6, at 2 pm in the Smith Funeral Home at Holgate, with the Rev. David L. Eichar of that place, the officiating minister. Interment was made in the Cole cemetery beside her parents.
