Obituary:

CUNNINGHAM. Winfield Scott Cunningham was born February 23rd, 1866, and died March 8th, 1892, aged 26 years and 14 days. He suffered eight long weeks but he bore his suffering with christian patience and died in the triumph of the Lord. He leaves a loving wife and child, father, mother, five sisters, one brother and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss --? for he was loved by all, but our loss is his eternal gain. He left a bright evidence behind --? asking all to meet him in Heaven. He made his own funeral arrangements, selecting his own text, a chapter to be read, hymns to be sung, and Revs. Myers and Kilgore to preach the sermon. He did it as calmly as if he was preparing for a long journey , and continued in prayer as long as he could lisp a word. He prayed that the Lord would let him live until Tuesday and his prayer was answered. He passed away Tuesday morning at 6:30 o'clock. He remarked on the evening previous to his death that the Savior would not come after him until morning. His funeral was held on Friday, March 11th, and although the day cold and the roads rough, a large congregation convened at Calvary church to manifest their regret for the departed and the friends.

Brother, thou wast mild and loving,
Gentle as the summer breeze,
Pleasant as the air of evening
When it floats among the trees.

Brother, peaceful be thy silent slumber,
Peaceful on thy grave so low,
Thou no more shall join our number,
Thou no more, our songs shall know.

Dearest Brother, thou has left us,
And thy loss wedeeply feel.
But 'tis God that hath bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.

Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When our days of life have fled,
Then in heaven with joy we hope to greet
Where no farewell tears are shed.

Farewell husband, brother, loved one
We shall miss you so sadly here.
But in Heaven among God's Angels
We shall meet you to part no more.

Where the tree of life is blooming,
Meet met here,
When the storms of life are o'er ?
On that Happy Golden Shore,
Where the faithful part no more,
Meet me there.
