Obituary: CREAGER. On Sunday, May 5th, at his residence In Harrison township, Gideon G. Creager died of meningitis, aged 7 years, 1 month and 3 days. He was born in Frederick county, Maryland, March 31st, 1810. In the fall of 1812 his parents moved to Montgomery county, Ohio, where they resided until he was 21 years of age, when he moved with them to Seneca county, O. On the 6th of November, 1838, he was united in marriage to Christena Shonkwiler. In the sprlng of 1862, with a family of eight children and his aged mother, they moved to Henry county, starting from Tifflin on the 30th of March, and after a journey of five days and nights over new and muddy roads of early days, they arrived at Thomas Kaudal's on April 3d, where they were delayed until a boat could be prepared on which they ferried their goods to the east aide of Turkeyfoot creek, when they were then hauled by a yoke of oxen to the cabin, where, by patient toil and industry they transformed the sturdy forest into a beautiful home; where 5 more children were born to them, making 13 in all, with 38 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He goes from his earthly home leaving a loving wife, 9 children, 26 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren to mourn their loss; but their loss is his gain. |
