Obituary:

ANOTHER OLD CITIZEN HAS GONE TO HIS REST. Truly is this becoming an oft repeated phrase, as one after another ''the fathers" are called away. Yesterday, the friends of Mr. George Crawford, of Liberty Center were called to pay the last tribute of respect to his memory. Mr. Crawford was born in the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Feb., 1813, and was in his 71st year. His youth and earlier manhood were spent in Knox county in this State. Over 30 years ago he removed with his family to Henry county, and since then his life has been known among the people as that of an upright honorable, Christian man. All who knew him will recognize the fact, that his was no ordinary mind, that his natural abilities were of a high order. Firm and unyielding as the granite rock, yet gentle and kind and tender in his private life. He was commissioner of this county years ago, when if honors were plenty, emoluments were few, yet with unswerving integrity, 'with clean hands and pure heart', he performed the duties of his office in a trying time, and for this Henry county should honor him. Possessed of ability, independence of character, and in an unusual degree, a natural skepticism of mind which led him to believe nothing, to resist everything, until fully convinced, yet did the religion of the blessed Saviour, so commend itself to his head and heart, that long years ago, he yielded to its precepts with the simple faith of a child, knowing in whom he believed, living it in his daily life. For some forty years he was a member of the Baptist Church. Eighteen years ago the wife of his youth and the mother of his children was called away. On Monday evening, Aug. 20th, the summons came to him, and gladly he obeyed the call to share that "rest which remaineth for the people of God." Napoleon, O., Aug. 22, 1883
