Obituary: Another one of the Fathers Gathered to His Rest - Early Sunday morning last Judge Alexander Craig breathed his last, surviving the death of his estimable wife one year. He bad been in failing health for some time before his demise, which was therefore not wholly unexpected. Judge Craig was born in Washington county Penn., and came to this county in 1835, and at his death was in the 82d year of his age. He held the position as one of the Associate Judges under the old State Constitution, and was county recorder in 1852-3. At that time he was also proprietor of the Henry House, being one of the first landlords Napoleon had. He was one of the early settlers, and the place contained but a few houses when he first located here, and from a settlement of a few families he has seen Napoleon grow to its present proportions. The Judge was a pleasant old gentleman, much respected and loved by all. His funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church, Rev. M. L. Donahey preaching the funeral sermon. Many were deterred from attending the funeral, especially aged citizens, on account of the extreme cold weather. |
