Obituary:

MAN DROWNEDOn Friday last as Mr. Henry Cooper and son were near the bridge which crosses the creek, near the residence of Mr. Rufus Spangler, in Monroe township, with a load of lumber, they found the stream, swollen by the freshet that the water covered the road and bridge. They unhitched the team from the wagon and in attempting to cross the flood one of the horses pushed the other off the road into the ditch, throwing the elder Cooper from the horse into the water. He made desperate efforts to save himself, and his son did all he could to rescue his father, but the current was too swift and be was carried away and drowned. The young man came very near drowning also, and certainly would had not help arrived, which took him from the water. Coroner Cloud was called, but he deemed it unnecessary to hold an inquest.
