Obituary:

COOKOf cancer in the face, Ambrose Cook, aged 83 years, 1 month and 7 days. Another of the pioneers of this county has passed away, more than 35 years ago he entered the wilds of Henry county with the companion of his youth, whose health soon failed, and after the lapse of some years of severe affliction, she was called from his embrace. He having no children now made his home with his friend, Mr. Samuel Paulus and family, where he found a pleasant home for some years. He served for some years as Trustee of Damascus township. He was a man of some peculiar ideas and strongly attached to the opinions he formed. One who loved to advocate by discussion those principles which to him seemed right, a firm friend of the Democrat party. Many years ago he embraced the christian religion and united with the church. He had been baptized by sprinkling when a child, he afterwards became dissatisfied with this as baptism, sent for the writer to visit him, this was in the month of July, 1887. He now desired to be baptized by immersion, but his health was so feeble that he could not be taken safely from home. He had a box prepared to hold sufficient water, and after inviting his friends the writer administered to him baptism by immersion. He now appeared fully satisfied with regard to this duty and enjoyed a good hope of a bright future, he loved to talk of his future prospects and endured with great patience the severe afflictions of life, he then requested us to attend to his funeral services in case we lived till that time. I would not attempt to portray the suffering of this aged one, month after month he lingered so near death, but finally on the 19th of March 1888, death came, and the sufferer passed from pain to eternal rest. On the 21st the funeral services were held at the Christian church, Damascus township, by Rev. J. W. Myers from Isaiah, 3d chapter, 10th verse.

Rev.J. W.Myers, McClure, March 24th, '88.
