Obituary:

Henry county and vicinity was not a little shocked and grieved Friday to learn of the accident that resulted in the death of Frank Coe, Sr., at Hamler. No one saw the accident and but little was ascertained from the unfortunate man when found, he being in a state. A near as can be found out the following circumstance surround his death:

Friday morning he started from Hamler with a load of shingles enroute for Mr. Andrix's in Richfield township. He was seated on the front part of the load and the road being very rough it is supposed that in passing over a rut by the Pittman school house he was precipitated with one bunch of shingles to the road. The horses, which were colts and very fiery, dashed away but were stopped after running a mile. Mrs. Willard, residing near, seeing the runaway, ran out and found Mr. Coe insensible on the road. Several other females arriving, Mrs. Willard dispatched them for aid and he was carried to her house. Dr. Reddin of Hamler was summoned but his efforts were futile and the unfortunate man died at one o'clock. Dr. Garrett of Deshler was also sent for but did not arrive until after the death. The body was taken to his borne in Hamler. An examination by the doctors elicited that Mr. Coe undoubtedly came to his death by heart disease, as beyond a few slight bruises on the body no other injuries could be found. That he was not run over is without a doubt The fall was a high one, and he has long been a victim of heart disease, hence the theory that this was the direct cause of his death, is plausible. A telegram bearing the sad intelligence was immediately sent to Frank Coe, Jr., who was spending a week at Lakeside. The funeral was held Sunday at Hamler, Rev. Colgan having charge of the ceremonies. Mr. Coe was one of Hamler's most solid citizens, well respected and in the 50th year of his age. - He was well known, having been a hotel keeper for years.
