Obituary: In Memoriam The following resolutions were passed at the quarterly meeting on Mount Cormal Circuit North Ohio Conference, United Brethren church, which convened at Jewell, December 7th, 1889, in memory of the death of Orlando Poe Carpenter, of the Jewell class. Resolved, 1st. That through the providence of an and ever merciful God he has been called from our midst to his heavenly home, our beloved brother, Orlando Poe Carpenter, who has been a constant member of the church and Sabbath school for a number of years, that through the death of our brother the church and Sabbath school have lost one of their faithful workers, that in his death the christian world has lost one of its brightest lights who fell with his face Zion-ward and fell praising the Lord, though he lies in the grave he yet speaks to us by his precepts and example to be diligent in the work in which his life was devoted. 2nd. That we as christians cherish his memory and that his mantle may fall on us and inspire us to greater zeal in our noble cause; and like our departed brother, live and die at the post of duty and hear the noble voice of our Lord say: 'Well done good and faithful servant, enter thou into the realms of joy where all is love and peace.' 3rd. That we tender our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved wife and children, and the many friends who mourn their loss, realizing how unavailing, how void of comfort are all human endeavors. May they look to him who alone is able to console in the hour of affliction. 4th. That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family, and also the county papers, and the Religious Telescope for publication. J. W. Lilly, T. E. |
