Obituary:

Mr. Hiram VanCampen received a telegram from Auburn, California, Saturday night announcing the death of his sister, Mrs. W. W. Campbell. While the announcement was not altogether unexpected, it was a shock to the deceased's friends, and leaves a path of sorrow in Napoleon where she was dearly beloved. A victim of life's greatest enemy, consumption, Mrs. Campbell's fight, almost against hope, was one heroic, and at the same time sad. About nine months ago realizing that this climate would prove disastrous to winter here the family of father, mother and two sons left for far away California to search after health in the balmy climate of the Pacific slope. Then followed weeks and months of anxious waiting on part of Napoleon friends. Reports of her health were eagerly read, scattering sunshine or gloom as the relentless disease seemingly toyed with its victim; at times giving hope, then again plunging the family and friends into the abyss of despair. The fight was prolonged but disease triumphed, and the hope from her friends here in Napoleon of again greeting her was ruthlessly shattered as the message arrived announcing the sad fact of her death. Mrs. Campbell was born in New Bedford, Mass., Nov. 10th, 1855, making her 37 years, 5 months and 5 days of age at time of her death. During her residence in Napoleon she was a prominent member of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Presbyterian church and drew around her a large Circle of warm friends. Later intelligence is to the effect that Mr. Campbell and family left Auburn yesterday with the remains and will arrive at Fostoria probably Friday, where deceased will be buried.
