Obituary: A death from abortion and an attempted suicide occurred near Keiferville,Henry county, last week. Jennie Brower and John Watters were school teachers and engaged soon to be married. Meantime the two became criminally intimate, and Miss Brower being in an interesting condition, an abortion was performed, as is charged, by Dr. Springer, of Deshler, from which she died. Watters became desperate and shot himself, but the ball hit a rib and caused a painful wound. Miss Brower's funeral occurred at Keifersville last Sunday, and was largely attended. Watters is confined to his bed and his death is expected. Since writing the above I hear that Dr. Springer has been arrested [and] charged with procuring an abortion, and will have a hearing before a Justiceof the Peace at Deshler. |
