Obituary: H. H. Pletcher, arrested for advising abortion in the Lena Baum case had a hearing before Squjre Donovan on Saturday. He was bound over to the Court of Common Pleas in the sum of $500. He procured bail and was thereupon set at liberty. During the proceedings of the hearing letters written by Pletcher were produced and read which showed a disgusting and terrible state of morals, and clearly convicted him of being the immediate cause of poor Lena Baum's untimely death. It is to be hoped this sad case may be the means of opening the eyes of parents of daughters of Napoleon, and cause them to keep a stricter lookout as to the company and hours their children keep. Many girls and young women in our midst are addicted to night ramblings and carousels, when they would be far better off if under the parental roof and caret. Let the sad fate of Lena Baum act as warning note to all such, and let them halt and ponder before a step further is taken, which in all probability may be the one to engulf them in irretrievable ruin and degradation, and probable death! |
