Obituary: BAKER. -- Barbary, wife of Jacob Baker, died near Florida, in Defiance county, Ohio, March 9, 1883 aged 44 years, 8 months and 29 days. The subject of this notice was born in Germany near the place called Belhime, December 10th, 1838, and landed in Defiance county, O., in which she died. She was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the year 1851, was married to Jacob Baker in the year 1856, and to these parents were born 11 children, 7 sons and 3 daughters mourn the loss of an affectionate mother. About 2 years ago these parents and children stood mourners at the grave of an Infant babe, at that time little thinking that so soon the reaper death would snatch from their embrace a fond mother. As a mother she was always kind and affectionate making, everyone around or about her happy. As a wife she was always indeed and in truth always a helpmate, always trying to make her husband comfortable and happy. As a mother affectionate and kind to her children, by which she drew their hearts strong and tenderly toward her - all her acquaintances only knew her to love and esteem her. She leaves a heart-stricken husband and ten children to mourn with many other dear friends and relatives yes, yet they do not mourn as those without hope as when their loved one left them she said that all was well with her and that she was so willing to die. We, too, miss her when we visit their Christian home, for it was a home for the weary preacher, and where he always met with a hearty welcome from the departed one. The funeral took place at the German Reformed Church in Florida, of which church she was a member. The Rov. Mr. Hileman, pastor of that church officiating, after which she was laid away at the cemetery in Florida to await the resurrection morning. May the Lord Bless this bereaved family and sustain the smitten-hearted husband who is striving in the church for a better home in heaven, and may He, who has promised never to forsake us, comfort the motherless children, and may they all prove faithful in the church militant and at last greet her in the church triumphant. My mother dear who was so near, J. W. |
