Obituary: Bach, the Murderer. The Weston Herald, in referring to the case of Bach, the Wood county wife butcher, whose execution was appointed for last Friday, but who has been granted a hearing in the Supreme court on a motion for a new trial, says, "We visited Bach Thursday. He was In good health and spirits. In answer to our question, he stated that be would rather go to the penitentiary for life than be hung. In his broken English he gave us to understand that he was willing to accept any punishment to escape the death penalty. He talked of his son and his expressed desire to see him was only equaled in vehemence by the repetition that his wife for ten years past was not fit for the sun to shine on. We believe that he will get a new trial; that the case will be tried in another county, and that Bach, who is guilty of the most atrocious murder ever done in the State will escape with a slight punishment." |
