Obituary: Boy Drowned at Defiance. A dispatch from Defiance dated the 28th, says: At. 9 o'clock this morning while three young boys were crossing the Maumee river just above the city in a boat and were about to land upon a raft, the youngest lad, Virgil Ayers, when attempting to step from the boat fell into the river. Charley Carroll, a companion, attempted his rescue, but was obliged to free himself in the struggle to save his own life, and the little fellow sank for the last time. As yet the body has not been recovered. Virgil was eleven years old, of bright intellect, and a good boy. The family is nearly crazed by the sudden bereavement. |
