Obituary: THE ANDERSON MURDER. The Crazy Wife Tells the Horrible Story to the Sheriff. On Sunday last, it will be remembered, Mrs. Eliza Anderson murdered her aged husband near Bowling Green. She was taken in custody by Sheriff Brown and repeated the following story of the murder several times: "I killed Stewart; I did it with a club; had my shoes off so he couldn't hear and hid behind a door, and when he passed through I hit him on the back of the head and knocked him down; he tried to get up and I hit him twice more, then he didn't try to get up any more. He only said 'water,' and that was all: I got a pail full; he was grasping and every time he'd open his mouth I'd pour in a tin full; as long as he gasped or gurgled I poured; I used two pails full of water; I thought I wouldn't hit any more, but as he wanted water I thought I'd give him all he wanted, and drown him; I looked at the clock and it was just half past 10; I thought that was a good time to kill him for everybody in the neighborhood had gone to the baptizing up the river; I washed him all clean and combed his hair and whiskers and straightened him out; I scrubbed all the blood off of the floor and then laid his head on the broom; he looked real nice and happy then." She said the reason she killed him was because he had told her that though he was older than she he would outlive her, and she thought she'd show him that he wouldn't." |
