Obituary: HORRIBLE ACCIDENT - AN OLD RESIDENT KILLED BY THE CARS For the fourth time within the past year and a half, have our citizens been horrified by the announcement of somebody being killed by the cars at or near this station. This time the victim is Mr. S. L. ADAMS, an old citizen of this place, who met his death at the railroad crossing at the depot on yesterday afternoon at about six o'clock. It appears he was on his way home, and had stepped off the platform of the Passenger Depot of the Toledo, Wabash & Western R. R. upon the track, walking toward his residence. Parties standing near warned him of the approach of an engine, which was backing up, but he seemed to pay no heed to their cries, or did not hear them. The tender of the engine struck him before he had proceeded very far, hitting him in the middle of the back, the tender and engine dragging him for about forty feet, when the engine was stopped. The body of the unfortunate man was mangled in a horrible manner, and his death must have been instantaneous. The railroad attaches did all in their power to save the man from his horrible death. Mr. ADAMS was some fifty years of age and leaves a large family. By request of relatives and friends no inquest was held over his body. |
