Deshler Flag Obituaries Vol. XXIII (2007-2009), which is priced at $12.00 and Northwest Signal Obituaries Vol. XXIII (2009) — formerly advertised as two books priced as one, but we were able to staple it into one big book, which will cost $22.00. Each of these will also have a $2.00 charge for postage and handling.

Let’s Finish This

We still need help transcribing cemeteries. We were hoping to finish updating the cemetery books by now, but have not been able to finish reading the cemeteries. Contact Jim Rebar for information on which ones still need to be read.

Fall is a good time to get out and do this project. Jim is making progress with entering the data, so we need to furnish it to him.

CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS RECORDS

Microfilm records kept by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1938 are now being stored in a granite mountain near Salt Lake City, UT. Millions of feet of microfilm containing approximately 3.5 billion images are being digitized and published through Family Search. The information links to billions of people in over 100 countries and is recorded in 170 languages.

The Granite Mountain Records Vault holds unpublished records from churches and governments, parish registries, passenger lists, birth certificates, censuses, deeds, wills, family, town and county histories and maps. Once converted to digital files, the vast majority of the collection will be available for online research.

Organized searching for records worldwide began with the 1894 establishment of the Genealogical society of Utah. Teams organized by the Church brought copies of the records back to the researchers from around the world. Construction of the vault in Granite Mt. began in 1958 and includes a network of climate-controlled storage rooms with walls of steel cabinets 10 feet high.

From The Deshler Flag, January 29,1897

This issue of The Deshler Flag was devoted to a review of the history of Deshler and a promotion of the businesses.

DESHLER HARDWARE CO.
dealers in general hardware, and manufacturers of the celebrated Solvent Washing Machines, is an institution that is deserving of a more extended notice. They give employment to eight or ten men and are building up quite a factory. Those who are experienced in such things say that they have the best patent washing machine on earth, and, judging from the way they are shipping them all over the country in car load lots, we would judge that this boast is none too large. They have recently sent several large orders “across the pond,” which denotes that their machines are in demand, not only at home, but abroad. We are pleased to add in conclusion that this firm is constantly enlarging their plant, and it will not be long until they will be employing a small army of men. Their stock of hardware is always complete and they can fit you out with most anything needed in the building line. If you want to see an up-to-date factory step in when passing that way.

E.J. O’HEARN
at present is giving his attention to the real estate business, and has quite a number of properties at rich bargains. Those who have noticed his advertisement in this paper from time to time can vouch for the truthfulness of this assertion. Mr. O’Hearn is a careful, conservative and intelligent business man, well posted in the values of realty and pretty generally strikes a bargain when he goes after one. The properties he offers for sale are always prime, as he will bother with nothing but the best. Quick sales and small profits is the motto on which he conducts his business.

[The Newsletter is a little short this time because it includes several pages of the index of the index to Vol. III of the Henry County Federal Census records, a repeat of the History of Marion Township, as well as a repeat of the Land, Town Lots and Chattel Returned Delinquent.]
