Try This With Care
The editor found an old clipping from a “Hints from Heloise” column. Try this at your own risk and it is suggested that you try it the first time on a piece of paper that is not precious to you. To preserve newspapers and other clippings that are beginning to turn yellow: Mix two tablets of milk of magnesia and one quart of club soda, chill in the refrigerator for approximately eight hours. Pour the mixture into a pan that is long and wide enough so the clippings can be laid flat inside of it. They should not be stacked on top of one another. Let them soak for an hour.
Take the clippings out of the solution and place them between layers of white paper towels or absorbent material and gently apply enough pressure to remove as much of the moisture as possible. Remove them and allow to dry.
From The Deshler Flag, June 1901
Dr. William NACE, pioneer druggist, sold his building and drug stock to Felix SMITH. The Flag stated that Dr. NACE was one of three business men in town that had been in business here for over 25 years. The other two were A. A. SUBER and Hiram COLE. The Nace drug store was located in the building now occupied by the same kind of business and conducted by John A. DONOVAN [in 1926].

LIBERTY NEWS – [An essay on death …] .. .In the present case Mrs. ALSPAUGH, daughter of Mr. Alex. TRESSLER, of your city, was one of the victims, in the bloom of life, a highly intelligent and respected neighbor, leaving three motherless infants, the youngest but a few weeks old to be cared for by father and friends. The other a bright and pretty little daughter of the widow KERSHNER, but four years old, a little bud snatched almost without warning from an unfavorable turn of the measles to appease the unerring law of nature. …

Ken Thompson Translations for German Scrapbooks at Library
Several years ago a three-volume set of family scrapbooks was donated to our society. The items were cut from at least one German-language newspaper from this area, but not dated or identified. It is believed the articles came from Der Defiance Herold (1895-1920) and included items regarding families in western Henry Co. and in Twps. transferred to Defiance Co. Ken Thompson is translating the items for us. An index is being published as space permits. Vol. I translation is completed.
