MEETINGS
November 20, 2000, Monday, 7:00 pm
First Families will be honored at a carry-in dinner. Bring a hot/cold dish to pass and your table service. Beverage and dessert provided. Russell Patterson, Henry County historian, will be the speaker.
MEMBERS
Don’t forget to send your surnames (limit 16 please) by November 21 for the January newsletter.
Henry County was created in 1820 and organized in 1834. It originally included almost all of what is now Fulton County. For judicial purposes, until 1824 the first settlements were attached to Wood County and from 1824 to 1834 to Williams County. Two courthouse fires also complicate the search for records.
WE ARE PUBLISHING…
We will be publishing a new volume of ancestor charts. We would like to encourage everyone to send us their information, using a standard 5-generation chart. PLEASE TYPE OR WRITE IN INK. We have received several charts written in pencil, which will not copy well. If you have sent one of them, please re-submit your chart in ink. The deadline for submission is February 1.
CORRECTION
In Liberty Township Cemeteries, page 16, row 11, numbers 4 and 5, the notation should read “d/o Samuel Edgar” and “w/o Samuel Edgar.” Thanks to Bruce McGarvey for sending this information.
POLICY NOTE
The cost of shipping and handling for our books includes sales tax which we must remit to the county. When someone orders a large number of our publications at one time and the stated amount of postage and handling costs is clearly more than necessary to cover our expenses, we choose another publication (or two) to send as a bonus.
Our goal is to make information on Henry County available to the public. Members of the society have freely given of their time and resources to produce our publications. Profits are used to purchase other publications and microfilm pertaining to Henry County and make these records available through our collection at Edwin Wood Memorial Library, Deshler, OH.

NOTE: Here are a few suggestions to those who might be writing us for research on their families in Henry County, OH. Please send a long, self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with your request. Also give specific names and at least an approximate date of birth or death. In order to do an obituary search, I need at least the year and month of death. For census searching you need to give the name of the township, town or particular area of the county in which the people lived.
We do not charge for the research done, but do ask to be reimbursed for any copies made and extra postage involved. All letters are answered, whether any information is found or not. I do not research at the courthouse or health department unless I am at the county seat on a personal trip.
