MEETINGS

November 18, 1996, Monday, 7:00 pm

Carry-in dinner honoring First Families and a CELEBRATION of our 10TH ANNIVERSARY! Larry Nelson will speak on Native Americans in Northwest Ohio. Beverage and dessert provided. Bring your own table service and hot and cold dishes to pass. If you know someone who has been a member in prior years, bring them along.

December 1996

No meeting.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS was held at the October meeting. The 1997 officers will be the same as this year’s with the wonderful exception that we will have a recording secretary. Lucille Sunderman has agreed to serve in this capacity. Thanks Lucille!

WE OWE A DEBT OF THANKS to many people at the courthouse. Not only has the archivist started to go through books with the cooperation of the Commissioners and County Recorder Arlene Wallace, but many others have been helpful recently. Betty Huddle gave me a tour of the new location for old books from the Clerk of Courts office. County Auditor Jim Hoops made sure that some of the old books from the Auditor’s office were donated to us. (Listing in a future issue.) Florence Fitzenreiter helped me go through them. Barb Steele, Clerk of Probate, Marilyn Clark, and Judge Muehlfeld have made some of their records more accessible to us for publication. THANKS!

WRITING TO THE COURTHOUSE? Address your inquiries to the specific office (Recorder, Probate, etc.), Henry County Courthouse, 660 N. Perry St., Napoleon, OH 43545.

WE ARE PUBLISHING ….

No new books this month. Please check the list on the back of the newsletter to see if there’s something you need.

QUERY

HARE, HERR, CLAY, KLEE, HOWE
John) Conrad Hare/Herr and his brothers, Jeremiah Hare and (John) Christopher Hare came to Napoleon between 1815-1829 with a sister, Julie Hare who married a Clay/Klee. John Conrad Hare was the son of John Christopher Hare and Johanna Ursula Howe. Some Howe’s came to Napoleon about the same time. Both families from PA.

OUR PARTICIPATION in the Northwest Ohio Genealogical Fair at Defiance on September 14 was well worth our efforts. We sold a lot of books and had a lot of people stop by our tables. Yes, it took two long tables to display our publications! Thanks to all who helped, stopped in, and special thanks to Cecelia Brown of the Defiance chapter who did so much organizing.

SPECIAL NOTE

The Henry County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society is celebrating its tenth year of existence at our November meeting. Make a special effort to attend and help us celebrate.

There are over 50 publications to prove how hard we have been working. We also have a First Families of Henry County program in effect. We accept Henry County related queries for our newsletter and our corresponding secretary does limited research at no charge. (Donations are requested for copying and postage. Our goal in every endeavor is to make information available to YOU. Please send us your suggestions for improvement. Even better, volunteer your time to help.

PLANNING ON DOING RESEARCH AT THE COURTHOUSE?

Try to get it done early this winter. During the renovation period some genealogical material will be temporarily unavailable. Not everything can be taken along when the offices are temporarily relocated during construction. This will probably start about March and who knows how long it will last? Fair warning.

HAVE YOU SENT a current list of the surnames you are researching? An updated list will be printed in the next newsletter, so don’t put it off.

HENRY COUNTY BIRTH RECORDS, 1873

We are not including this listing of 1873 births because we sell Henry County Birth Records, Vol. I (1867-1877). If you would like to purchase that book, please see our Publications page for more details.
