AN ANSWER TO OUR REQUEST FOR HENRY COUNTY FAMILY INFORMATION

Kay Miller, Republic, OH 44867 writes…

I have my Price family traced back to Virginia in 1796, my great-great-great grandfather being born ca 1744, place unknown. His grandson Jacob Price came to Seneca Co., OH in 1821 with his wife, Esther, and first born, Anna. There were 11 children born to this union, seven living to adulthood.
I had good luck tracing six of these children, but could never find where or what happened to Isaac Price. It wasn’t until I ran across a legal document that I found Isaac living in Henry County. The next week I was on my way to Henry County. At the court house I checked births, deaths, and marriages.
Here I found Isaac had married Susan Maria Newton on 29 July 1856. By checking census records I found the following children born to Isaac and Susan: Sarah A., b. 1860; John A., b. 1863, d. 1896, buried at Swanton, Fulton Co., OH; Joseph M., b. 25 May 1867, m. Ada V. Tillia 8 April 1888, d. 1 Aug 1947, buried Swanton; Mary E., b. 3 July 1870; Rachel A., b. 1872; Esther, b. 14 Sept 1873; and Julia, b. 1878. All were born in Liberty Twp., Henry Co. where Isaac owned land in Sec. 20.
After several more trips to Henry Co. and much searching, I received an obit for Isaac, who died 11 Sept 1898 at age 73 yrs. and 9 mo. He is buried at Swanton, too, but had spent his entire life as a veterinary surgeon in Henry County. I could not find a will for Isaac. Susan Price d. 31 May 1895 in Fulton Co. where she and Isaac lived the last few years of their life. I need an obit for her. Can anyone held me with Isaac and Susan Price?
Who did his children marry? Did they live in the area?
On Thanksgiving Day of 1989 I went to Fulton Co. to the cemetery, then spent the rest of the day driving through Henry Co. We located Isaac and Susan’s farm and drove around the area. We enjoyed the country side with its pretty farms. I have Isaac Price to thank for introducing me to such a lovely place as Henry County.

CIVIL WAR DISCHARGE RECORDS

We continue our listing of Civil War Discharge Records taken from Vol. 1 Soldier’s Discharge Records at the Recorder’s Office, Henry County Court House. The initials OVI refer to Ohio Volunteer Infantry; OVVI refers to Ohio Veterans Volunteer Infantry. Some additional information may appear in the courthouse records.
In the attestations accompanying the records it is not always clear whether the soldier resides in a town or township; for example, Napoleon. When two spellings are given for a name, one usually occurred in the index and the other in the record itself. Question marks indicate that is was not possible to read the handwriting. Records copied by Karen Sunderman.
