ANOTHER FAMILY HISTORY DONATED TO LIBRARY

Ruth Browne has donated a copy of A Bit About the Ennes by Calvin Ennes, written in August 1969 and recently indexed.

ARE YOU MISSING SOMETHING?

We have had some interesting programs lately. If you missed our meetings then you DIDN’T learn about the Miami-Erie Canal and families who lived along it. You also missed a computer demonstration of OPLIN (Ohio Public Library Information Network) and how to find Genealogical records in the Ohio Historical Society files. Coming soon… a visit to the remodeled Probate Court Office in September.

THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS will send you a print-out of the family histories they have of a given surname. Send an SASE to: Library of Congress, Family History Division, Washington, DC 20541. Limit one surname. You may use the web site http://lcweb.loc.gov to search the card catalog.

NATURALIZATION RECORDS

About 1 1/2 years ago I was allowed to copy several books of naturalization records found in the Clerk of Courts office in the courthouse. These included “Declaration of Intention”, “Petition for Naturalization”, and “Certificate of Naturalization” records. Sometimes included in these records is a physical description, wife, children (possibly their ages), place of foreign residence, place of current residence, and arrival date and port. Margaret Kelly has now abstracted the genealogical information from these records and I will publish it in this and future newsletters. No one seems to know why these volumes were not in the Probate Court Records, which is where most of the naturalization records are kept. –Karen Sunderman
