Mrs. Mildred Harms, Bowling Green, OH 43502 submitted the following family history:

This genealogy traces from HAROLD and BERNICE HARMS and their 10 children all born in Napoleon, Toledo or Bowling Green, OH. The first Harms we know of was JOHANN PETER HARMS, birth date unknown, died 1745 in Ostenholz, Germany.
CORD HEINRICH HARMS, g-grandfather of Harold, was the son of JOHANN HEINRICH, b. 1792 in Ostenholz. Have located 3 generations before him. Cord had a son, FREDERICK WILHELM b. 1867 in Ostenholz. Cord’s son HAROLD b. Napoleon 1893.
HAROLD HARMS’ mother was ANNE ROHRS b. 1874. His wife, BERNICE was a REHL (RUHL). Her parents were JOHN REHL b. 1844 and MARY ANN KRYLING b. 1852.
HENRY ROHRS, b. 1840 Ottingen, Germany, settled in 1858 in Henry Co. in the Hanover Settlement. He was the father of ANNE ROHRS HARMS.
NICHOLAS RUHL (REHL) is found in church records 1839 and Henry Co. census 1850. He was b. Heuese-Darnstadt, Germany. He first settled in Galion, OH. JOHN REHL b. 1844 in Galion and found in Henry Co. census 1870. NICHOLAS purchased land in Henry Co. 1863 and 1867.
A full book with details and verification from Germany is in the Archives of BGSU, Bowling Green, OH 43402.

CIVIL WAR DISCHARGE RECORDS

We continue our listing of Civil War Discharge Records taken from Vol. 1 Soldier’s Discharge Records at the Recorder’s Office, Henry County Court House. The initials OVI refer to Ohio Volunteer Infantry; OVVI refers to Ohio Veterans Volunteer Infantry. Some additional information may appear in the courthouse records.
In the attestations accompanying the records it is not always clear whether the soldier resides in a town or township; for example, Napoleon. When two spellings are given for a name, one usually occurred in the index and the other in the record itself. Question marks indicate that is was not possible to read the handwriting. Records copied by Karen Sunderman.
