WE ARE PUBLISHING…
The Henry County Genealogical Society is publishing Minutes of the Board of Equalization of Henry County, Ohio 1847-1884 (Real Estate and Property Tax Adjustments) 24 pages plus index $3.00 plus $1.50 postage and handling. Due to courthouse fires, these are some of the earliest records available.
Also new: Obituaries from the Northwest Signal Volume XI (1997) at a cost of $10.00 plus $2.00 postage and handling.
FAMILY HISTORY DONATED TO LIBRARY…
A copy of the Family History of Wilhelm von Fintel has been donated to the library by Doris Ann (Fintel) Ehlers, Vivian Lois (Fintel) Bowman, and Bernice Lillian (Fintel) Lohmann. It is over 400 pages and may be of interest to many of our readers.
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
Surnames published in each January issue are taken from the membership forms, but are not included in this electronic version of the newsletter. Many members do not have their renewals mailed in by the December deadline for the newsletter, so we use the list from the previous year, i.e. the 1997 list. If you are a member of HCGS and you wish to have surnames you are researching included but have not listed them on the form, please send a letter enclosing your list by November each year. We ask that your list be limited to the surnames you are actively researching due to space limitations in the newsletter.

NATURALIZATION RECORDS
About 1 1/2 years ago I was allowed to copy several books of naturalization records found in the Clerk of Courts office in the courthouse. These included “Declaration of Intention”, “Petition for Naturalization”, and “Certificate of Naturalization” records. Sometimes included in these records is a physical description, wife, children (possibly their ages), place of foreign residence, place of current residence, and arrival date and port. Margaret Kelly has now abstracted the genealogical information from these records and I will publish it in this and future newsletters. No one seems to know why these volumes were not in the Probate Court Records, which is where most of the naturalization records are kept. –Karen Sunderman
