NOW IS THE TIME TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP, if you haven’t already done so. A single membership is $7 and two people at one address is $9. Please state your member number if you are renewing your membership. You may also send surnames or queries at the same time.

AN APOLOGY

Our newest member of First Families is Audrey H. Cosper. Her name was misspelled in the last issue. Also, one of her ancestors is Francis C. Rich Blair, not Richard. Anyone knowing the date of death of Ruth/Rachel Harman, please contact Ms. Cosper through the HCGS. Thank you. (The corrections have been made to the electronic version of the newsletter.)

IDEAS FOR PROGRAMS will be gratefully accepted by Phyllis LaRue. She has scheduled some very interesting programs in the last couple of years, and we’d like to have better attendance at the meetings.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

Don’t wait for a relative to come to you. Go visit. Ask questions. Tape record responses. The tape will become a treasure in years to come.

TEN YEARS AND MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE COUNTY you might have missed the newspaper articles about Henry County Genealogical Society’s 10th Anniversary. Twenty people attended the organizational meeting held September 15, 1986 and our OGS charter was granted in May of 1987. The group was conceived by Joyce and Richard Colwell, who were members of the Henry County Historical Society, and Lucille Van Scoyoc, then librarian at Deshler.

We have 101 members listed for 1996. They live in 26 states and Saskatchewan, Canada. Our newsletter also goes to many libraries and other genealogical societies. Our corresponding secretary does limited free research and answers about 100 letters per year. With publications numbering more than 50, we are proud of what we have accomplished in just ten years!

MEMBERS LIST AND SURNAME LIST

Every January, we publish the full membership list, as well as a list of surnames being researched by our members. For privacy reasons, we do not reproduce the membership list in the electronic version of the newsletter. Without a membership list, a surname list becomes meaningless, thus is not reproduced here, either.
