Robert W. Wittenmyer, 64, of Liberty Center, died Saturday morning at Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon.
A former Liberty Center mayor, he was born March 5, 1920, in Maumee, to Winfred and Betty (White) Wittenmyer. On September 29, 1951, he married LaRena Boulis, and she survives.
Mr. Wittenmyer had owned Liberty Center Industries for the past 14 years. Previous to that, he served as a purchasing agent for Daybrook, Inc., of Bowling Green, for 20 years, and as general manager of Fayette Manufacturing for seven years.
Mr. Wittenmyer served Liberty Center as mayor for six years in the late 1950's and early 1960 s, and as a school board member from 1972 to 1979 He completed a term as board president in 1973.
A member of Liberty Center United Methodist Church, he was a three-year Sunday School superintendent in the 1950's. He was a Navy veteran of World War II; a past commander of Gilbert Bauman American Legion 492 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 6596, both of Liberty Center; a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Pacific Chapter 63, Liberty Center; Wood County F & AM 112; Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo: Zenobia Shrine, and Napoleon Elks Lodge 929.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Dennis, Liberty Center; two daughters, Mrs. Dave (Debra) Silveus and Mrs. John (Dawn) Black, both of Liberty Center; one sister, Mrs. William (Mary Ellen) Vreeland, of Brooklyn, Michigan; one brother, Homer, Toledo, and five grandchildren.
Services were held at 10:30 a m. today at the church. The Reverend Roselin Runnels officiated, and burial was in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
The family suggests any memorials be made to Liberty Center United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
