Herbert L. Whiteman, for many years active in local agricultural work, died Friday at the age of 89 in his home in Liberty township.
Mr. Whiteman was made a Master Farmer of Ohio in 1938 and in the same year was elected an honorary member of the Liberty Center FFA. He was one of the first 4-H club advisors in the county.
Many Years in Farm Work
For many years he was active ia extension work nnd was a life member of the Henry Couty Farm Bureau. He also had served as president and director of the Northwest Co-operative Sale . He was a member of the Liberty Chapel church.
Born in Seneca couny, Mr. Whiteman came to this county as a child. At one time he engaged in contracting work in Wauseon. He served for many years as a trurtee in Liberty township and was also a member of the county board of health. From 1920 to 1932 he was a member of the local board of education and worked for consolidation of the school district and construction of new school buildings.
Mr. and Mrs. Whiteman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November.
Surviving are hfe wife, Stella; daughters, Marjorie Whiteman, an expert on international law in the U.S. State Department; Mrs. Howard McClarren, and Miss Helen Whiteman, all of Washington, D.C.; and Mrs. Charles Murdock, of Liberty Center; brothers, M. L. Whiteman, Fremont, and Fred Whiteman, of Long Beach, Calif.; sisters, Mrs. Henry Bresler, Liberty Center, and Mrs. F. A. Daum, Defiance, and five grandchildren.
The body was at the residence northwest of Liberty Center until Monday when services were held at 2 p.m. in Liberty Chapel, with Rev. David Eichar and Rev. Charles Rex officiating.
