Pearl Diebel, youngest daughter of Jonas and Anna Elizabeth Diebel, was born in Liberty township, Henry County, Ohio, on May 20, 1885, and departed this life on April 1, 1937, aged 51 years, 10 months and 12 days. At the age of 14 she became a Christian and continued in the Christian faith all through her life. On February 21, 1905, she was united in marriage to Homer Steward, and to this union were born seven children: Thelma Irene, Crystal Lenore, Bonita Pearl, Mary Louise, Evelyn May, Blaine Diebel and Lowell Matthew; three of these children, Thelma Irene, Bonita Pearl, and Blaine Diebel preceded her in death. Twenty-one years ago, under the pastorate of Rev. Charles B. Rex, she with her husband joined the Liberty Chapel United Brethren church, where all of her family have since jined. She was a most noble character, a kind and loving mother, a very devoted wife, and a loyal neighbor. She was much interested in the welfare of those she loved and often ministered to their needs beyond her strength. She had a cheerful and pleasant disposition, and bore her sufferings patiently hand bravely, telling her husband in her last hours, ‘Don’t worry about me. I’m all right! I’m not afraid to go.’
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband Homer, three daughters: Mrs. Elbert Boyer, of Bryan; Mary and Evelyn and son Lowell, all at home; one sister, Mrs Elizabeth Rakestraw of Napoleon; three brothers, John H. Diebel of Columbus; Dr. W. H. Diebel of Detroit; and George W. Diebel of Ada, Oklahome, and a host of other relatives and friends.
