Obituary:
Death of Dr. Viers
Dr. E. L. Viers whose sickness covered a period of almost two years, passed peacefully at his home in this place Wednesday afternoon, aged 53 years, 1 month and 7 days. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Lodge No. 518 F. & A. M. of this place will have direct charge, but the ritualistic work will be rendered by Defiance Commandery No. 30, K. T., of which he was a member. Other orders to which he belonged will each attend in a body.
Casket will not be opened at the church. Friends desiring to view the remains are requested to call at the residence today (Saturday), from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Esrom L. Viers was born near Delta, Ohio, March 27th, 1845, died at his home in Liberty Center, O. May 4th, 1898, aged 53 years, 1 month and 7 days.
The subject of,thls sketch served as a private in the war of the rebellion, having enlisted in 1861, when he was but 16 years of age. At the close of the war he came home and took up the study of medicine, graduating from the , Physio-Medical College at Cincinnati, February 21st,1877. He was married to Editha F. Stout, at Florida, O., June 27th, 1866, and this union was blessed with four sons and two daughters, all of whom are living except one son, Ray, who died in 1889.
The Doctor was prominent in lodge circles, having been affiliated with the F. & A. M, R. A. M., K. T., O. E. S., I. O. O. F., K. of P., and G. A. R.
His taking off is sincerely regretted not only by his immediate family and relatives, but a large circle of warm friends.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church at Liberty Center, Sunday, May 8th, the services being jointly conducted by Lodge No. 518, F. & A. M., and Defiance Commandery, No. 30, K. T., the former conducting the ritualistic work at the church and the latter performing the rites at the grave.
Every detail of the arrangements for the funeral were made by the Doctor some months ago, and these arrangements were carried out to the letter, including the delivery of the funeral oration by Mr. G. H. Poulson, formerly of this place, and one of the Doctor’s warmest friends. The address we print In full elsewhere in this issue.
