Mrs. Elmira Viers Dies Suddenly at Her Home in Liberty Center
The many friends of Mrs. Elmira Viers, widow of Capt. J. B. Viers, were greatly shocked when informed of her death, which occurred Saturday, December 29th.
Mrs. Viers had been in splendid health for one of her years. She had performed her usual duties around the home on Friday, and in the evening she retired in apparently her usual health. At 4 o’clock Saturday morning she called to her son and his wife that she was feeling quite ill. A physician was called but Mrs. Viers failed to respond to treatment and died at 1:00 Saturday afternoon, the sands of life simply running out.
Elmira Snyder Viers was the daughter of Jacob and Lovina Snyder, and was born September 19, 1846, at Canton, Ohio, and died at her home in Liberty Center, Ohio, December 29, 1928, aged 82 years, 3 months and 10 days. She was united in marriage with Captain John B. Viers May 9, 1867, shortly after the return of the young officer from service in the Civil War. To this union were born five children, two of whom are still living, Nellie Viers Cameron, of Fremont, and Esrom L., of Liberty Center. The three other children died in infancy. She leaves, besides the daughter and son mentioned, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two brothers and one sister, two half-brothers and one half-sister.
Mrs. Viers had been a resident of Henry county for 60 years, she and her husband coming to the farm two miles southwest of Liberty Center soon after their marriage. They lived on this same farm until about ten years ago when they bought property and, moved to Liberty Center. Captain Viers died about six years ago and soon afterwards her son and wife moved from the farm and occupied the home with her.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, Rev. A. C. Fischer, of St. John’s Reformed church, officiating, and interment was made in Young’s cemetery where her dust rests beside that of her soldier husband, but her spirit has assuredly returned to the God who gave it.
