Ella May Tabler, daughter of Stephen A. and Clemency Johnston, was born at Sidney, Ohio, May 1st, 1865. She was united in marriage with A. F. Tabler Dec. 27th, 1883. To this union were born three daughters and one son. The family resided near Piqua, Ohio, until they came to the late residence, Maple Hill Farm, in Harrison Township, this county, 12 years ago. At the early age of 12 years she confessed conversion and united with the Church of Christ, Disciple, of which she continued a member until after her marriage. At the age of 17 years she was granted a teacher’s certificate and began teaching and taught until her wedding. During the year following her marriage she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and brought her membership to Sharon Church when the family came to Henry County, and remained a faithful member and consistent Christian until she was called to the church above.
Mrs. Tabler was a patient at Flower Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, where she submitted to a serious operation from which she seemed to have recovered when grave conditions arose and she returned to the hospital for treatment. All the eminent surgeons and physicians could do could not finally avail. Through all her afflictions she bore them with the remarkable patience and resignation, passing from labor to rest and reward on October 5, 1915.
Mrs. Tabler was of a retiring, quiet, unselfish disposition, always ready to minister to the good of others. She delighted in opening her home in hospitality to her friends and ministers, who were frequent guests. She possessed all the beautiful traits of loving and watchful motherhood, looking well to the religious training for children, all of whom are members of the church. She was a member of the orders of ‘The Eastern Star’ and of ‘The Gleaners,’ and at the funeral members of the former order sat together in a body.
Mrs. Tabler is survived by her husband, three daughters, namely, Mrs. George Murray, Middlefield, Ohio; Mrs. Rev. Oliver Clyde Weist of Columbus, Ohio; and Miss Stella Tabler at home; one son Thomas Sumner Tabler, also at home; three three sisters and 3 brothers together with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
The remains were brought home Wednesday and the funeral services were held at the Liberty Center Methodist Episcopal Church Thursday, October 7th at 2 PM, her pastor Rev. J. C. Crider officiating, assisted by Rev. Charles Bennett of Napoleon. Interment was made in Young’s Cemetery.
