Alta Josephine Swartilander, eldest daughter of Mathias and Mary Swartzlander, was born near Fremont, O., July 19; 1868. She departed this life Jan. 3, 1939, at the home of her sister, Mrs. O. E. Murdock, in Liberty Center, O., at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 14 days. Her early childhood was spent in Sandusky county, O. She came with her parents to Henry county, O., in January, 1890, where she had since resided.
For the past 24 years she had been an invalid, having been stricken with the dreaded disease, rheumatism. Through all those years she bore her affliction with the greatest of patience, never complaining of her lot. While she was never affiliated with any church she was a regular attendant at the U. B. Victory Chapel while health permitted.
She leaves to mourn her departure, two sisters, Maggie L. Spiess and Ida Pearl Murdock of Liberty Center, O. seven nieces, eleven nephews, a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Her father, mother and an only brother, Frank, having preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at St. John’s Reformed church, Liberty Center, Thursday afternoon, sermon by Rev. Loomis, of McClure. Interment was made in Young’s cemetery.
