Royce G. 'Spud' Spiess, 69, of Liberty Center, died Saturday, March 4 in Highlands Regional Medical Center, Sebring, Fla.
He was born Feb. 19, 1931 in Liberty Center, the son of Homer G. and Myrtle (Braucher) Spiess. He married Carolyn G. James on Sept. 24, 1950 and she survives.
Mr. Spiess was a machinist for Bunting, Bearing, of Delta, for 47 years, retiring in May of 1994.
He was a former member of the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving, besides his wife, are, daughters, Mrs. Harold (Kathy Sue) Smith, and Mrs. Lee (Jean) Sonnenberg, both of Liberty Center; sons, William, and Kenneth, both of Liberty Center; a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Earlene) Sager, of Liberty Center; a brother, Earl 'Tuff' Spiess, of Liberty Center; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith G. Spiess; his parents; a sister Betty Myers; and brothers, Burdette 'Red' Spiess, and Carlton Spiess.
Services will be held Thursday, March 9 at 11 a.m. in the Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, with Pastor Randy Gragg, of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Liberty Center, officiating. Interment will be in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Friends may call at the Wright Funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8. Henry County Volunteer Fire Fighters Services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Hope School or the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department.
