Royce G. 'Spud' Spiess Feb. 19, 1931 - March 4, 2000
Royce 'Spud' Spiess, 69, of Liberty Center died Saturday morning at Highlands Regional Medical Center of Sebring, Fla.
Born Feb. 19, 1931, in Liberty Center, he was the son of Homer and Myrtle (Braucher) Spiess. On Sept. 24, 1950, he married Carolyn James, who survives.
He was a machinist at Bunting Bearing of Delta for 47 years, retiring in May of 1994. He was a former member of the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department.
He is also survived by two daughters, Kathy Sue Smith and Jean Sonnenberg, both of Liberty Center; two sons, William and Kenneth, both of Liberty Center; a sister, Earlene Sager of Liberty Center; a brother, Earl 'Tuff' of Liberty Center; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Spiess; a sister, Betty Myers; and two brothers, Burdette 'Red' and Carlton.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wright Funeral Home of Liberty Center, Pastor Randy Gragg officiating. Interment will be at Youngs Cemetery of Liberty Center.
Visitation will be after 7 p.m. today and after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wright Funeral Home of Liberty Center. A Henry County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, HOPE School or the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department.
