Lloyd 'Tam' Spiess, 82, of Napoleon died Monday afternoon at Northcrest Nursing Home of Napoleon.
Born Dec. 1, 1915, in Defiance, be was the son of Lewis and Blanch (Miller) Spiess. On Nov. 5, 1938, he married Renetta Moehrman and they were married for 36 years. He then married Juanita Baxter on Jan. 1, 1980, and she survives.
He owned and operated Spiess Insurance Agency of Liberty Center for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Liberty Center. He was the full-time clerk of Liberty Center and the board of public affairs of Liberty Center from 1943-1954. He was a Henry County Democratic Committeeman for many years. He was a former member of the board of directors of the Ohio Municipal League. He was secretary/treasurer of the League of Ohio-Villages from 1949-1951. He was a former member of the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department and a former Boy Scout Leader.
He is also survived by three daughters, Lorraine Clair of Delta, Lorrinda Smith of Bluffton and LeAnn Moser of Napoleon; two sons, Calvin of Napoleon and Timothy of Toledo; two sisters, Luella Palmer of Athens, Ala., and Mary Ernsberger of Liberty Center; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by nine brothers, Clyde, Wilbur, Dale, Dewey, Homer, Lewis, Clarence, George and Carlton; and four sisters, Doris Bargman, Lucy Willis and Olive and Marie Spiess.
Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Liberty Center, Pastor William Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Youngs Cemetery of Liberty Center.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wright Funeral Home of Liberty Center.
