John Henry Spiess was born in Perrysburg, Wood county, O., July 28, 1851, and died at the home of his brother, Will, near Liberty Center, O., January 16, 1916, aged 64 years, 5 months and 19 days.
Deceased was united in marriage with Miss Seville Sergent Nov. 6, 1873, and to this union eleven children were born, nine sons and two daughters. Wife, one son and one daughter have preceded him to the spirit world. He was converted during a meeting held by Rev. Ferguson and united with the Liberty Chapel U. B. church Jan. 1st, 1902. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. of Liberty Center. On account of failing health he was not permitted to attend the service of his church for some time, but always expressed his confidence in Christ’s power to save, and when told that he must succumb to his afflictions he expressed his willingness that God’s will be done, speaking of his hopes of the land of better things and thus went to be with the Christ he had loved and served.
He leaves to mourn their loss 8 sons, 1 daughter, 19 grandchildren, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, besides other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning, at Liberty Chapel, interment in Young’s cemetery.
