Elmer Clayton Spiess, 79, Rural Route 1, Liberty Center, died Monday evening at Northcrest Nursing Home, Napoleon. A retired farmer, he was born April 11, 1894 in Paulding County, the son of Edward and Maggie (Swartzlander) Spiess.
The deceased was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War I, member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, the American Legion, V.F.W., former Liberty Township trustee and a member of the Soldiers Relief Commission for 20 years.
Surviving are one son, Duane, Liberty Center; two daughters. Mrs. Ileen Bowerman, Delta, Mrs. Bernard (Sandy) Dietrich, Napoleon; three brothers, Forest, Delta, Evan, Ford, both of Liberty Center; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Beachler, Toledo, Mrs. Fern Andrews, Wauseon; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Reverend Joseph Burnett, pastor of the Liberty Center United Methodist church officiating. Interment will be in Young Cemetery, Liberty Center. Friends may call at the mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or the Filling Memorial Home.
