Wllliam D. Smith, son of Michael and Elizabeth Smith, was born near Napoleon, Ohio, April 21, 1857, and departed this life July 23, 1919, at his home in Liberty Center, O., aged 62 years, 3 months and 14 days. He was united in marriage with Harriett B. Pratt, of Grand Rapids, O., the 8th day of October 1879. To this union were born three children who are still living, Mrs. Pearl C. Sheffield, of Toledo, Mrs. Tessa M. Crum, of Liberty Center, Oliver F. Smith, of Toledo.
Mr. Smith was a good neighbor, never hesitating to do a kindly act when opportunity presented itself, a kind and loving husband and father, being respected and loved by all who knew him. During his last illness he was a patient sufferer, never complaining and always looking on the bright side of life even in his dying hour. He struggled bravely to regain his health, but lost out in the battle for life.
About four months ago he accepted Christ as his Saviour, also the truths held by the Seventh Day Adventist people. His experience grew brighter as death grew nearer. We lay him away to rest until the morning of the first resurrection, at which time we hope to see him in immortal bloom.
He leaves to mourn a wife, two daughters, one son, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, two sisters, three brothers and many other relatives and friends.
