Robert W. Showman, a well known resident of Henry county for over half a century, passed suddenly away at the home of his brother, Frank, at Killmaster, Mich., Dec. 23, 1912. Mr. Showman was born hear Harper’s Ferry, Md., Dec. 16, 1836, and early in life came to Ohio to make his home. Stirring times were surrounding him when civil strife existed and he felt the call and enlisted in Co. D, 14th O. V. I., serving through the Civil War until August, 1864, receiving an honorable discharge at Atlanta. He was a member since 1888 of the Phil Hendricks Post of the G. A. R. of Colton, O. He was married in 1866 to Miss Martha Edwards to whom were born four children, Blair D. of Toledo, Cynthia C., deceased, Lylian M. and Fannie T. Two brothers and two sisters and two grandsons survive him. His funeral was held Dec. 27 from the Methodist Episcopal church, Liberty Center, conducted by Rev. W. N. Shank of Toledo. The Grand Army of the Republic gathered around another of their fallen comrades, conducting their ritualistic services and laying the flag of their country upon his breast. He was laid to rest in the beautiful Young cemetery at Liberty Center, O., by the side of his wife. Mr. Showman and their family residing in their beautiful country home along the Maumee river are some of Henry county’s best known people and hosts of friends join in sympathy with those who mourn.
