Martha Cory Edwards, daughter of David and Cynthia Edwards, was born April 1st, 1836, and was aged 72 years and 16 days at the time of her death, April 16, 1908. On November 15th, 1866, she was united in marriage to Robert Watson Showman and four children blessed this union; Blair Detwiler, Cynthia Cory, Lyllian May and Fannie Forester.
At the early age of 16, Mrs. Showman gave her heart to Christ and to the church, and her bible showed the usage and marks of a student that takes a devotional delight in reading it. Many Psalms and the Gospel of John she had memorized and the fourteenth chapter was an especial favorite, from which her funeral text was taken.
She was born on the Edwards farm, overlooking the Maumee river, where she died and was perhaps the first white child born in Washington township.
Her ancestors were soldiers in the Indian, Revolutionary, Mexican and Civil wars and hence it was natural for her to be patriotic and the flag had its place with the [remainder cut off].
