Obituary:
Frank Monroe Showman, son of John and Louvinia Showman, was born near Lancaster, Fairfield county, Ohio, on January 20, 1850, and departed this life March 27, 1933, aged 83 years, 2 months and 7 days. From Fairfield county the family moved to Van Buren, Ohio, and in 1857 to a farm on the north bank of the Maumee river one mile east of Damascus.
When the Civil War began soon after, three older brothers joined the union army leaving the operation of a 200 acre farm to Frank and his younger brother Charles and their father. After the death of the father Frank and Charles operated the farm, first in partnership and later when the farm was divided separately. In 1903 Frank sold his share and moved I to Alcona county, Michigan, remaining there till 1931 when he returned to his present home.
He was happily married in 1903 to Abbie Ellenwood. Together in Michigan they enjoyed a comparative pioneer life with its forests and streams, its hunting and fishing.
Frank Showman was known to all men as an industrious, honest, thrifty, helpful and friendly man. His long life saw the development of a great nation, three great wars, as many depressions and eras of prosperity. His retentive memory and keen sense of humor made him an interesting talker in his later years.
He leaves to mourn, the wife, a brother Charles, who lives in Texas, Ohio, a sister, Mrs. Sada Augenstein of Napoleon, many nephews and nieces and their families, a few cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at two o’clock in charge of Reverend C.D. Chiles.
