Liberty Man Fatally Injured Monday Night As Team Runs Away
Alton Sheeley Thrown From Wagon As Horses Run
Alton Sheeley, 43, of Liberty Center died early Tuesday morning in Memorial hospital at Wauseon from injuries received when he was thrown from a wagon about 9:30 Monday night. Sheeley suffered a fractured skull.
The unfortunate man was driving a team south of Liberty Center, when the harness broke and the horses ran away. Sheeley was thrown into the ditch and was found shortly afterward by Sheriff Bowerman, who had been called to Liberty Center.
The runaway team raced thru the business district of Liberty Center, before they were halted. The injured man was taken to the Wauseon hospital in Boyers’ ambulance. Sheeley had been farming a piece of ground on the south side of the river near the Damascus bridge and was returning to his home when the fatal mishap occurred. He leaves four children. He and his wife were divorced two weeks ago.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon.
Obituary
Mr. Alton Sheely was born November 7th, 1890 at Damascus, Ohio, and departed this life May 8th, 1934, aged 43 years, 6 months and 1 day.
He was united in marriage with Miss Abigal Oberdorf and to this union were born four sons, Richard, Gerald, Robert and James.
He leaves to mourn his going his four sons, one brother, Orville and two sisters, Mrs. Janie Heft and Mrs. Myrtle Fredrick, besides many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the home of his sister, Mrs. Janie Heft Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. C. D. Chiles in charge.
