Levi Serrick was born at Limerick, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, January 30, 1829. he came with his parents to Henry County Ohio, in 1836, and settled on the farm now owned by Patrick Conway, in Liberty Township, and lived in a covered wagon two weeks until they could get a house built. In later life he lived some years in Fulton county near Wauseon. For the past 17 years he has lived in Liberty Township Henry County. Died at his home, April 23, 1911,aged 82 years, 2 months and 25 days.
He was fifth of a family of 12 children, and only one, Frank Serrick, of Toledo, survives him. He was married in 1850 to Ariatha Herkimer. To this union was born two daughters: Alice, who died in 1851, and Fanny, who lived to marry Levi Coover and died in 1875, leaving one daughter, who is Mrs. Rev. Hunter, of Chicago. The wife, Ariatha Herkimer Serrick, died in 1851, shortly after the death of the daughter, Alice.
He was again married, August 10, 1856, to Johanna Biggins, with whom he has lived happily for 55 years.
He leaves to mourn, his aged and afflicted wife, one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, one brother, at a large number of other relatives. He also leaves one foster daughter, Mrs. Jenny Smith, of Toledo; and two foster granddaughters, Myrtle Wagner and Giulia Wagner Ernst, both of Liberty Township.
He was converted under the preaching of Rev. J. H. Duckworth more than 40 years ago and united with the Bethel Christian Union near Wauseon. Later he united with the Evangelical church and remained a member for nine years. 16 years ago he united with the Hebron Christian Union, and remained faithful to his duties as such member until he was called home to his reward in heaven. Funeral services at Hebron Chapel, April 27th, at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Baker, of McClure, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. Marshall Gray, the present pastor, after which the body was buried beneath a bank of flowers, the tribute of loving friends. Interment in Young’s Cemetery at liberty Center.
