Henry Schlender, a lifelong resident of the Texas and Liberty Center communities, was born at Texas on Dec. 31, 1882, and departed this life Friday morning, March 18, 1955, at the age of 72 years, two months and 17 days.
Mr. Schlender had been in failing health for several years but his condition was much improved and he had been working in his garage. On the day previous to his death he had worked and made a trip to Napoleon on business.
Mr. Schlender came to Liberty Center with his father from Texas and was in the wagon factory and blacksmith work. In more recent years he operated a garage and general repair shop. He was a charter member of the volunteer fire department for 51 years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Avo; daughter, Mrs. Margaret Gineman, of Liberty Center; granddaughter, Jane, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie White, of Toledo, and other relatives.
Services were conducted from the Walter funeral home Monday afternoon, March 21, at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. David L. Eichar officiating. Burial was in Young’s cemetery.
