Gladden (Pog) Ritter, 71, Napoleon, died Thursday afternoon at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Napoleon April 13, 1916, he was the son of Charles and Lulu (Knipp) Ritter. On May 17, 1940, he married Doris Mourer, and she survives.
Ritter was a former employee of the General Motors Hydro-Matic Division Plant in Toledo, retiring in 1976. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the European, African and Pacific theaters. He was a member of Napoleon’s St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post #300, a lifetime member of the Luther R. Kolbe V.F.W. Post #8218 and a 50-year member and past noble grand of I.O.O.F. Lodge #260.
Also surviving are a son, Terry of Swanton; three brothers, Forrest of Spring, Texas, Gaylord of Napoleon and Burnell of Lima; two sisters, Ruby Dennie and Ione Homan, both of Napoleon; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jan, and two brothers, Dayle and Elden.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. John’s Episcopal Church, Napoleon, Father Jack R. Huntley, vicar, officiating. Interment will be in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday where an Odd Fellow memorial service will take place at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Henry County.
