Obituary:
Samuel Rigal, son of Joseph and Catherine Rigal, was born in Franklin county, near Columbus, O., on Dec. 2, 1860.
He was one of a family of four children, three boys and one girl, Louis, Sarah and Reuben, all of whom preceded him in death.
When he was about four years of age the family moved from Columbus to Liberty Center, locating on what is now known as the Charles Bowers farm. When he was nineteen years of age, or about [smudged], both of his parents were taken from him by death, but not, however, without being able to instill in him the importance and value of the higher ideals of life.
On May 11, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Joanna Rineheart, who preceded him in death on May 11, 1931, which was on their wedding anniversary.
To this Union were born two sons, Loren J. and Mark S., both of whom preceded their parents in death.
On Dec. 9, 1932, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Cora Weakley, of Liberty Center. To this union were born no children and on Dec. 3, 1937, she too was taken from him by death.
Mr. Rigal was very fortunate in having such fine outstanding Christian wives, who no doubt were of great inspiration to him in his Christian living.
At the time of his death he was the oldest living member of the Liberty Center M. E. church, being a charter member of the same. For many years he was the keeper of the “House of the Lord,’’ being much concerned about all of its activities and interests. Up to the time of his departure for the south land last fall, he was always present in the worship services and the church school sessions; he was recognized as authority on many of the vital topics.
Mr. Rigal was known as a real benefactor in the community; always engaged in such things as would he beneficial to others, making such philanthropic improvements as would bring employment to men and happiness to those concerned.
His devotion to his community and church won for him many friends who have been much concerned about the tragedy which removed him from life's gilded sheen.
He departed this life in a hospital at Lake Worth, Fla., with newfound friends who were with him to the last, at 10:00 p.m. on Dec. 31, 1938, having attained the age of 78 years and 29 days.
He leaves to cherish his memory only one nephew, R. D. ; one niece, Mrs. Betty Vasher, both of Liberty Center, and one cousin, Joseph Rigah of Maumee, O., but an exceptionally large circle of neighbors and friends.
