Robert Richardson Aug. 11, 1922 - Jan. 11, 2004
Major Robert Alfred Richardson, 81, of Swanton died Sunday night at Swanton Health Care and Retirement Home.
Born Aug. 11, 1922, in Lewiston, Mont., he was the son of Harold and Lillian (Moline) Richardson. On Jan. 5 1942, he married Jean Smith, who survives.
He was a retired major from the U.S. Army. He served the army from 1938 until 1959, receiving a bronze star and a Purple Heart. He was the youngest 1st sergeant in the U.S. Army in 1942. Following retirement, he was a building manager for King ~ County Court House, Seattle, Wash., for 16 years and Westin Hotel, Seattle, for 12 years until his second retirement. He was a member of F. & A.M. Masonic Lodges of Nara, Japan, and Seattle, Scottish Rite of Seattle and Nile Shrine of Seattle. He was also the Seattle Seafair grand marshall for 16 years and drove limousines for dignitaries in Seattle.
He is also survived by two daughters, Cecile (Dan) Chambers of Liberty Center and Sue (Milton) Koehn of Dalhart, Texas; a son, Robert Jr. (Susan) of Seattle; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annetta Donovan and Maxine Erkenbeck; and a grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Liberty Center United Methodist Church, Pastor Kent Wilson officiating. Interment will be held at Young Cemetery, Liberty Center, with military honors accorded by the U.S. Army Burial Corps of Fort Knox, Ky.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home Liberty Center, where Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m. by the Liberty Center Masonic Lodge.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
